This is my first time reading a book by this author. I picked up the book from my local library. The story did pull me in and I was caught up in this fairytale life of Heiress. Of course fairytales dont always have happy endings. We find the main character "Heiress" being swept off her feet by her knight in shining armor "King". Heiress is catapulted into a life of divine royalty and no expense is spared. Yet the facade of happiness comes with a price. Her lovely palace is filled with nothing but lies, fake promises and pain in order to be with her ultimate love King. Now Heiress must explore whether eternal love and happiness is worth in the end or will this strange addiction for love become her ulimate demise. It was a pleasant read and I agree with another reviewer that sex scenes are not always needed to sell a book.

Alexis Nicole never fails!

I've read each of Alexis' books. Her writing gets better each time I read it. I love the way she captures her characters and you get to know them so well that you love them or hate them as if you really know them. Her latest book, Strange Addiction, is wonderfully written. It was a captivating read and kept me intrigued from beginning to end. I look forward to reading her future works. I'm a fan!

I can honestly say that I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a story that has been told before, but the presentation of the story and character(to me) were well crafted. I opened the book and was immediately drawn into the story. The story was filled with emotion and heart. It had some great lesson and points about not losing ones self in doing things for others. I loved that. It was a strong message throughout the entire book. And there was a good ending as well. I rated it 4 stars because it slightly predictable. It is a book that I would highly recommend if you don't need tons of sex and explicit language. It was a very classy story with great scene settings and dialogue. I want to thank the author for a great, quick read.

About the Author

Gayle H. Gregory is first and foremost a teacher, having experienced teaching and learning in elementary, middle, and secondary schools, community colleges, and universities. She has had extensive district-wide experience as a curriculum consultant and staff development coordinator. Gayle was principal/course director at York University for the Faculty of Education, teaching in the teacher education program.
Her areas of expertise include brain-compatible learning, differentiated instructional and assessment strategies, block scheduling, emotional intelligence, student motivation, RTI Tier One, collaborative learning, common core, renewal of secondary schools, enhancing teacher quality, coaching and mentoring, managing change, and building professional learning communities. She also a trainer for Visible Learning Plus with Corwin.

She is an author of numerous books related to educational neuroscience and differentiated instruction, assessment, and curriculum, including the following titles:

Lin Kuzmich, of KCS, Inc., is an educational consultant, professor, and author from Loveland, CO. She served the Thompson School District in several roles as the assistant superintendent, executive director of secondary and elementary instruction, director of professional development, and a building principal. Her school was named a 2000 winner of the John R. Irwin Award for Academic Excellence and Improvement. In addition, for the past decade she has been involved in staff development through several universities and the Tointon Institute for Educational Change. Kuzmich is an adjunct professor at both Colorado State University and University of Northern Colorado. She is a senior consultant for the International Center for Leadership in Education, has provided training and consulting to school districts around the country, and has presented at numerous national conferences.

My daughter is 9 and i keep trying to find books that she will be interested in. her nickname is pickle, that is why i bought it to begin with. i could not have been happier!! she read the book in 2 days!!! she could not put it down! i bought her the whole series and could not be happier with it!! this is a great series for girls or boys!! must get

Disappointed. Our son asked for it because he liked the first one but unlike the first one. The first one is a comic book with dramatic drawings. All of the Magic Pickle books, except for the first one, are chapter books. Although our son now loves chapter books, he feels too old for the Magic Pickle chapter books. He was looking forward to the drawings in these books but they are very few of them here.

The scream of the wind pushes at the cracks of the castle walls as I hurry to my new room. Once inside, with the door closed, I breathe easier. I decide to unpack before bed.

I'm folding my last sweater when the hair on the back of my neck turns stiff. Suddenly, I hear the moan of a bow being dragged across the strings of a violin. I whip around.

My violin is suspended in mid-air. I feel my knees go weak and I try to scream but nothing comes out. My violin is being played in mid-air by . . . no one.

An absolute must read

I'm a big fan of Cindy Miles, and I was so happy to see Amelia and the Munro's in this novel.

Ivy Calhoun is a teenager whoms mom has married a Scottish laird and they have moved to his castle in Scotland. Upon arrival Ivy comes face to face with her step grand mom . Upon meeting Lady Elizabeth Ivy realizes something off about her and even learns there is ghost in her castle.

Logan Munro tries to warn the american lass to leave that there evil afoot but all his scare tactic's don't work and end up befriending the lass. As this lass offers to help him find out what happened to him they fall hard for each other .Ivy in list the help of her school friends and lady and laird Munro too.

Will the evil presence prevent them from happiness or will they be able to love each other "forever more"

Great book for teens and adults. I wish Ms..miles would write more of this genre ....

Fun paranormal romance set in Scotland

Honestly, it isn't that hard to get me to read a book. FOREVERMORE had me hooked from the back blurb and cover promising a Scottish castle and a ghost. Cindy Miles, an adult romance author making her YA debut, delivers everything one could hope from a Scottish castle-set ghost romance. It's good, cheesy fun.

Violin prodigy Ivy Calhoun moves with her mother to Glenmorrag, the home of her stepfather Niall. And Ivy isn't that opposed to Scotland (which, among other things, offers excellent music opportunities), but she doesn't really know Niall, his mother is a judgmental old lady, and a disembodied voice keeps telling her to leave. It's all a bit of a hostile home environment. As it turns out, the voice belongs to Logan Munro, who is just trying to save Ivy from a terrible fate.

One of the strengths of FOREVERMORE is Ivy and how she acts both sensibly and like a teenager trying to find her footing. She knows she can't just leave the castle given that she's sixteen and in a country she barely knows, so she sets out to solve the mystery of Logan's death. One of the main ways she does this is by talking to people. Classmates, servants, people who have been around and might know something. There's a real sense of Ivy becoming part of the community. At the same time, she doesn't talk to her mother and stepfather despite the fact they could be a real help - and possibly in danger themselves.

FOREVERMORE ties into one of Miles' adult novels, HIGHLAND KNIGHT, which is out of print but available as an ebook. I haven't read HIGHLAND KNIGHT, and it isn't necessary. I think it could've been integrated more smoothly, but I thought it was an interesting idea. I am down with a universe where time-traveling knights and cursed ghosts coexist. And it's fun to think that one day a crazy paranormal romance might apply to your life.

The biggest weakness of FOREVERMORE is the ending. Ivy gets one solution handed to her and stumbles across another and everything is solved with nary a trouble. In a more plot-driven paranormal I might not forgive it, but FOREVERMORE is first and foremost a romance. I enjoyed Ivy and Logan's relationship quite a bit. There is some development before they start liking each other. (Of course, Ivy instantly notices Logan is hot, but that's another animal.) But they trust each other and work together to fight the evil haunting Glenmorrag, which is important in a relationship.

I must admit that I'm also happy the cover models actually bear a resemblance to the characters. She has Ivy's blonde hair and pink streak! Overall, the cover is a great encapsulation of the contents. If you like romance, castles, ghosts, and music, I recommend picking up FOREVERMORE this summer. It's a quick, sweet read with good atmosphere and an engaging lead couple.

Fun and feel good YA paranormal romance

I went into Forevermore hoping for a cute and light read, and I was not disappointed. This novel is adorably sweet and touching. The characters are well-developed, the setting is amazing, and the world-building is top-notch. Miles is a wonderful writer, and the prose flowed nicely. The pacing is spot-on, and the plot kept me hooked until the very end. If you're looking for a light, happy, YA Paranormal Romance, then this book is for you.

Ivy is one of the most likable heroines I've ever read. She's not a brat, but she's strong and tough in her own way. Without the snark and without pushing people away, she shows an inner strength that is lacking in many YA novels. She's selfless and caring, and she fights for what she wants and what she believes in. I truly enjoyed reading from her perspective.

While the secondary characters are well-developed, I wish we could have gotten to know Logan a bit better. I mean I feel like I know who he is in the novel, but I wanted to know a bit about his past, too. I feel like we learned more about Emma, the BFF, than we did about Logan. However, Logan is also a strong character, from what I can tell, and he's not angsty and tortured like so many YA love interests. This was a refreshing change.

I absolutely loved the setting. I'm obsessed with Scotland, and Miles does an excellent job of describing the Highlands. I felt like I was there! The Scottish Highlands were almost another character in the novel, and I really liked that. Also, Miles' use of the Gaelic language and the description of the accents added to the environment. The world-building is also well-described and easy to understand, and the plot is intriguing. There is a bit of mystery and urgency throughout due to Elizabeth's hatred of Ivy and her subsequent actions. Ivy, unlike most teenagers, turns to adults for help, though. She leaves her family out of it, but she has adult and teenage friends, which I liked. As an only child, too, I can attest that most only children get along with adults as well as they do people their own age, normally. It seemed more realistic that she had friends who were grown-ups, and that she trusted them than it would have for her to handle everything on her own.

Overall I absolutely adored this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a "feel good" novel that is set in an enchanting place. Forevermore is a great summer read and should not be missed!

Spaniards in the Colonial Empire: Creoles vs. Peninsulars? introduces students to the relationships between Spaniards born in the Americas and those born in Spain. Creoles, those born in the Americas, believed that their families’ sacrifices made them especially qualified to fill administrative positions in the new territories; however, Iberian-born Spaniards frequently filled these posts.

Directly addressing the Americans’ complaint of discrimination in appointments to offices of church and state, the book examines why holding these positions was so important to creoles from the sixteenth century to independence. Spaniards in the Colonial Empire argues that patriot leaders in the wars of independence in the early nineteenth century quickly identified peninsulars as the enemy and shattered colonial elites long comprised of Spaniards born in both the Old World and the New.

Over the last three decades, crime policy has been increasingly dominated by attention to the reformation of the individual offender and their ownership of responsibility, with less attention paid to the social causes of crime.  More recent research has returned to an examination of the social causes of crime, with a specific focus on the social context of offending and rehabilitation.

Crime and Social Policy studies the critical relationship between social policy and crime management through an in-depth review of current trends, and a look at the potential contribution of social policy initiatives to both crime causation and cessation. Particular attention is paid to existing social policy trends and their impact on crime causation, crime rates, and crime management. The text also researches the role social policy can play in promoting more effective reintegration of offenders into the community, its role in promoting social capital and the creation of positive networks to prevent reoffending. Throughout the text, contributors include a range of illuminating case studies highlighting the impact of social policies on offenders, and draw on recent empirical research ranging from youth crime, anti-social behaviour, ‘problematic families’, and social security fraud.

About the Author

Hazel Kemshall is Professor of Community and Criminal Justice at De Montfort University. She has completed research for the Economic and Social Research Council, the Home Office, Ministry of Justice, the Scottish Government, and the Risk Management Authority. She has over 50 publications on risk, including Understanding Risk in Criminal Justice (2003), and Understanding the Community Management of High Risk Offenders (2008). She is the author of the Home Office risk training materials for social workers and the Scottish Executive materials for social workers.
