Using feminist and postcolonial theory this book examines the impact of multiculturalism and globalization on embodiment and community whilst considering the ethical and political implication of its critique for post-colonial feminism.

A diverse range of texts are analyzed which produce the figure of 'the stranger', showing that it has alternatively been expelled as the origin of danger - such as in neighbourhood watch, or celebrated as the origin of difference - as in multiculturalism. The author argues that both of these standpoints are problematic as they involve 'stranger fetishism'; they assume that the stranger 'has a life of its own'.

About the Author
Sara Ahmed has taught in urban, suburban, public, independent, and international schools. She is currently teaching middle school literacy and social studies using the inquiry model at Harlem Village Academy and has taught at The Bishop's School in La Jolla, California, and the Burley School in Chicago. Sara is coauthor with Harvey "Smokey" Daniels of Upstanders: How to Engage Middle School Hearts and Minds with Inquiry. She is a member of teacher leadership teams for Facing History and Ourselves, an international organization devoted to developing critical thinking and empathy for others. Sara's classroom is designed to help her young adolescent students to consider their own identities and to take action in the world in socially responsible ways. Sara is a Heinemann PD Consulting Author and is available to do On-Site PD. She also presents along-side Harvey "Smokey" Daniels and others at Heinemann Multi-Day Institutes.

Life Changing Book

I read this book when it first came out in 2002, and to this day I still point to it as one of the books that has most affected my life. I picked it up again recently and was amazed at how much of how I view life has ties to this remarkable book. About the Author
Timothy L. G. Lockyer, PhD, began his industry experience by training to become a Chef de Cuisine in a London, England West End Hotel. From there he worked in a number of West End Hotels, including the Savoy, and then moved on to management positions in and around London. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1973 to purchase a restaurant in Wellington. After three years he left New Zealand to study and work in Hawaii, Hong Kong, and China. In 1986 he returned to New Zealand to Massey University to teach Hotel Management and while there completed a Masters of Management Studies. Three years later he went back to Wellington as Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the Central Institute of Technology. In 1997 he became a full time PhD student at the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand where he completed his thesis. He is now teaching in the Department of Tourism Management at the University of Waikato and has undertaken research and published widely. He has always maintained a close working relationship with hotel management and has, over the years, undertaken consultancy and other industry related training and activities. He has taught numerous courses in hotel management and tourism, as well as marketing, accounting, and research methodology.

There is so much to be said but it boils down to this book was AMAZING! Proving that things aren't always as they seem. Yet standing on faith and God's word you come to truly understand the meaning "If God be for me, He is more than the whole world against me." You feel the depth of Allyson struggle and pain as she comes to realize that you have to move out of your own way and let God work. I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE! N will be checking for more from the author.

She's done it Again!

You have done it again with your new book "The Preacher's Wifey". At the beginning of the book, I was "mind fussing" with Allyson and Byran but by the end of the book, I was looking for my Bible to read along with the scriptures that helped Allyson get through. I look forward to reading more of your work and can't wait for your movie "Let's Get It On" to premier. This will be my book club selection.

Refreshing Christian reading

This was a great read! Couldn't put it down. I love action and this book had enough action and romance to keep my night light on. Definately keep me up and want to know what happen next.. The begining had me a bit baffled because these were "Church" folks who were not behaving like "church" folks at all, not in any since of the word and then it got real interesting. Couldn't put it down. Great job Ms. Washington!!
