Revolutionary Romance

Deceptive Promises is probably my favorite of the three Delaware Brides Series. Maybe it because authors get better with time or just deeper into you heart. Maybe it is because the Revolutionary War is my favorite period of American history. Maybe it is because I cannot imagine falling in love and then being separated for months on end and want to know how the characters can possibly survive it! Either way, this book is fabulous and I loved it.

Margret is not a half bad character name either, if you know what I mean. *grin* The only negative thing I have to say at all is that I do not like the cover. Their position seems so unnatural and she almost looks uncomfortable and as if she wants to run. Yet again, maybe that is just me. Plus I am not a fan of mass markets, but anything from this author Amber Miller, soon to be published as Amber Stockton is worth it.

This is a story that delves into history and tells details of some of my favorite historical players. This is almost a history lesson with some romance thrown in. To really understand some of the other characters I would suggest reading the entire trilogy, but it is very capable of being read alone as well, and highly recommended as a novel as well.

{My Thoughts} - Gus Dempsey joins the US Marine Corps. despite the fact his mother isn’t okay with it. It has a lot to do with his dad had been in the military and when he had come back home from fighting he and his mom fought a lot and then one day his dad just left, didn’t even say good-bye. His mom seemed to think that Gus was going to do the same thing that his dad had done or worse die in action and she wasn’t able to deal with those thoughts so she more or less resented his choices.

Gus had joined the Marine Corps to make a difference. To go to war and in the words of the book kill some dragons. Gus gets selected for a program that allows regular infantry men to become dog handlers. His superior believes that he would be a great candidate for that program. Gus also thinks he will be good for it because he loves dogs and have always enjoyed their company of that of the human population.

After Gus get to the place where he will train he is taught how to use his imagination. He learns that he is capable of more then he thought he ever could be, which in the military I believe is a common end result. Eventually he gets to meet his dog named Loki and they continue to train together. Once their training concluded everyone in their class is certified but Gus and Loki. They are called into the Superiors office and told they have orders to go right to war. This is when everything changes for Gus and Loki. They start to learn what it really means to rely on one another and how much they need each other just to survive.

If you want to learn about what happens while they are in Afghanistan you should read the book. I didn’t want to put it down at times and I love how it is so kid friendly and not all filled with military mumble jumble. It’s a well written book and well worth the read. I look forward to reading more books in this series in the future.

This book looks at Bangladesh’s ready-made garments (RMG) industry – the seventh largest in the world — facing demands for environmental and social management according to standards set by consumers in environmentally progressive societies. Apart from these concerns not having found cultural or institutional resonance in Bangladesh, the pressures for cost reduction, on-time delivery and cheap labour in a highly competitive international market make the problem that much more complex.

In this book Selim uses the analytical framework provided by the ecological modernisation theory to examine the economic, communicative and social political aspects of ethical trade, and argues that the economy-ecology relationship can indeed be a positive sum game if nation-states and economic actors change their policymaking styles and greening behaviour to take advantage of scientific evidence and green technological opportunities.

They're back and better than ever!

This is one of those books that I will read and reread when I'm feeling down and need cheering up; it has the perfect balance of drama and sweet fluffiness.

Jory's point of view is such a joy to read. It's fun and quirky and I love that Jory has such a magnetic personality (for both people and trouble). As for Sam, he complements Jory perfectly; a sturdy rock to Jory's hyperactivity. The moments he and Jory appear together in the book are by far my favorites. Mary Calmes has a real talent for creating such lovable characters in her books (though Jory is my all time favorite).

The plot is fast-paced and I never found myself becoming bored. I was completely enraptured. After I finished Bulletproof, I found myself immediately wanting to reread it -- that's how good it was! I really hope to be seeing more of Jory and Sam in the future.

A quick note to readers new to the series: if you haven't read the A Matter of Time books, I recommend you do so before Bulletproof. Not only are they also amazing reads, but Bulletproof will probably be mighty confusing without their context.

Overall, a great addition to the series! Highly recommended!

Jory hasn't changed

Jory hasn't changed (for those of you who read 'A Matter of Time'). He's still bouncing off the walls and is still full of energy, independant, and opinionated, but he puts his brain into gear (sometimes, but not all the time)and as the situations worsen, he uses his smarts to get himself out of trouble (but not all the time) or just runs for all he's worth. 'Bulletproof' is about the best sequel I've read. The story continues with the same stream of action, "situations", and the loveable, likeable, and endearing personality of Jory. Sam is still Sam, but life gets in the way and Sam (as well as Jory) have had to deal with it, realizing that...(can't tell you that!). Again, Mary Calmes has written a great story that flows, has action, has wonderful characters that allow us emotion, and allows us inside their heads. She is capable of letting us become part of her story, by allowing us in. It's a great read and I highly recommend it.

Take that SAM!!! Validation for Jory!

In the past four books it has been a trial for Jory as Sam takes him for a roller coaster ride repeatedly. This book validates what a catch Jory is and I especially love the fact that it was Sam's turn to get insecure, hurt, beat up, and made to look like a fool. I love Dane and Jory's relationship. The fact that J has someone more powerful than Sam to run to. In the end it shows a clear Happily Ever After for sam & Jory. don't mind if this is the last story. I am satisfied!

Hacker return to the relationship between brain function and our psychological attributes. While their earlier work identified the troubling conceptual issues in contemporary neuroscience, History of Cognitive Neuroscience documents the history of the study of perception and sensation, attention and awareness, memory, emotion and linguistic powers. By studying the major experiments conducted by neuroscientists over the last century and a half and evaluating the validity of the conclusions that were drawn from them, this well-informed critique aims to challenge, provoke and illuminate neuroscientists, psychologists, philosophers and general readers alike.

About the Author
M. R. Bennett is Professor of Neuroscience, University Chair and Scientific Director of the Brain and Mind Research Institute at the University of Sydney. He is the author of many papers and books on neuroscience as well as the history and philosophy of neuroscience, including The Idea of Consciousness (1997) and A History of the Synapse (2001). He is past President of the International Society for Autonomic Neuroscience, past President of the Australian Neuroscience Society, as well as the recipient of numerous awards for his research, including the Neuroscience Medal, the Ramaciotti Medal, the Macfarlane Burnet Medal and the Order of Australia.

P. M. S. Hacker is an Emeritus Research Fellow of St John’s College, Oxford, UK. He is the author of numerous books and articles on philosophy of the mind and philosophy of language, and is the leading authority on the philosophy of Wittgenstein. Among his many publications is the four-volume Analytical Commentary on Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations, and its epilogue, Wittgenstein's Place in Twentieth Century Analytic Philosophy. His most recent work is Human Nature: The Categorial Framework, the first volume of a trilogy on human nature.
Together, M. R. Bennet and P. M. S. Hacker have authored the acclaimed Philosophical Foundations of Neuroscience (Blackwell, 2003).

A sequel Smitten, Vermont book- syrup sweet with romance. 4 fiction authors, 4 Smitten romance novellas that share a setting, characters, and even overlapping plots. Fun small town romance, continuing the winning style of Smitten. This Romance Capitol village has a matchmaker author quartet conspiring again, turning a town of lumberjacks into a dreamy stop. Each story could stand alone, but multiple continuing threads tying one relationship to another prove a depth of collaboration from the authors. 4 protagonists from a single household. "Secretly Smitten" reads like a single novel.

1-----LOVE BETWEEN THE LINES: Colleen Coble wins awards with murder mystery/romance. Not surprising this romance involves a dead man, but a twist of one potentially again alive. Love with suspense propensity. Bonus star for mentioning my sweet favorite, pecan pie. Protagonist Tess loves a mystery and Ryan has an attic full of clues. SMITTEN!
2-----MAKE ME A MATCH: Kristin Billerbeck has Smitten's matchmaker Zoe begin her Cupid's shop in an old building and William, new city manager, must enforce rules and codes. SMITTEN! Town's fire department action is hot.
3-----KNIT ONE, LOVE TWO: Diann Hunt places readers inside the Sit `n Knit shop owned by Anna (divorced mom of 3 single adult girls) where she turns a little unraveled when Michael enters for a shopping spree. Sparks and skeins fly. SMITTEN! A revealed secret causes tempers to fly.

Mostly targeted to women, but it works for men who like to read of small town comfort and superior storytelling.

Some real Vermont town may soon change its name to cash in on the love capitol of "Smitten" and now "Secretly Smitten." It's good Christian fiction, folks, so expect wholesome lust. It makes a lumberjack wilt & weep. "Secretly Smitten" proves unrequited love really means "postponed."
Secretly Smitten was released early and I devoured it- unable to stop turning pages, even from one author to the next.

The people of this town wrap themselves around your heart and make you long for happy endings. A pretty good second book in a series, not quite as strong as the first book but definitely interesting enough to make you want to read more installments.

I like that these are books I could easily recommend to my mother, sister, or niece. Fun stories about a multi generational family living in a small town and all that goes with living in such close proximity.

This book is filled with interesting information. It is well worth reading. Even those familiar with church history will find things that will surprise them. Well written and well researched it is an advertisement to read some other books by the same author. She is a very good writer so consider them as well.
